The project  “Closer. Culture of new migrants // Focus: Sri Lanka”, which showcases Sri Lankan culture and the stories of Asian migrants in Romania, continues in October with a new series of activities.

The community mini-festival “Closer together” takes place over October 25-26, bringing out two days of meetings and dialogue at the Museum of Maps and Rezidenţa9 in Bucharest. The event delves into Sri Lanka’s oral traditional culture and creatively explores how migration stories can create bridges of dialogue between communities.

The program, in Romanian and English, includes activities for people in all age brackets, be they members of the Sri Lankan community in Bucharest or of the public at large: from presentations of the project’s research results to story-telling sessions with and on the Sri Lankan community, as well as a creative collage workshop. The mini-festival unfolds at the Museum of Maps, on October 25 (with the topic “Maps, stories and fragments of life”) and at Rezidenţa9, on October 26 (with the topic “Folk tales and creative collages”).

“Closer. Culture of new migrants // Focus: Sri Lanka” is a project developed by co/laborator film. Between August and December, the pilot edition brings into the limelight community events, pop-up exhibitions, performances, workshops and editorial content and materials that showcase Sri Lankan culture and the stories of Asian migrants in Romania.
