Immigration police officers – summer season activities

The General Inspectorate for Immigration, in collaboration with other structures within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aims to ensure citizen safety by efficiently organizing and carrying out all actions within its competence, including during the summer months.
In July, immigration officers carried out 580 actions, controls and inspections to prevent and combat illegal stay and undeclared work. These missions were conducted both independently and alongside partner institutions. Following these inspections, 24 foreign nationals were removed under escort from Romania, and 13 people were placed in public custody centres. Additionally, 152 return decisions were issued and 1,416 sanctions for minor offenses were applied.
Prevention remains a priority during summer. Risk assessments formed the basis for planning missions in areas hosting festivals, cultural events or other large scale public gatherings. Immigration officers stepped up checks in areas frequented by foreign nationals, as well as the headquarters of legal entities and economic operators, to identify persons residing without legal rights or those under national or international surveillance.
On July 31, 2026, 316,189 citizens from third countries, the European Union and the European Economic Area were registered in Romania, according to data released by the General Inspectorate for Immigration. A significant part consists of individuals who came to Romania for work purposes, the main countries of origin being Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.
