Also, 7,317 foreign nationals filed applications to extend their right to residence, in line with the provisions of Emergency Ordinance no. 194/2002 on the regime of aliens in Romania, republished, with subsequent amendments and completions.

Under Council Directive 2001/55/EC, 3,335 residence permits were issued to beneficiaries of temporary protection, a measure that supports persons displaced by armed conflicts and promotes a balance of efforts between Member States.

Residence permit

If you are a citizen of a non-EU and non-EEA member state, you entered Romania on the basis of a long-stay visa and wish to remain on Romanian territory for a longer period of time, you must get a residence permit. This certifies your right to reside on Romanian territory and is granted by the territorial units of the General Inspectorate for Immigration in your county of residence.

To obtain a residence permit, you should create a profile on PortalIGI, at least 30 days prior to the expiration of your long-stay visa, and select a date on the calendar to schedule an appointment in order to submit the documents in person. Further information on the required conditions and documents to extend your stay on Romanian territory, depending on the chosen purpose, is available by accessing the following link.
