Between January 1 and December 31, 2025, immigration police officers in Timiş County (western Romania) managed the stay and residency of 12,663 people. 11,300 of these were foreign nationals from third countries, mostly from Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Republic of Moldova. The main reasons for taking up residence in Romania were employment, family reunification, and studies.

In 2025, there were 2,158 applications for employment permits, with 1,634 permits issued for permanent and seconded workers. 348 applications were rejected. In terms of preventing and combating undeclared work, 72 foreign nationals were detected in illegal situations, most of them from Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 136 return decisions with voluntary departure were issued, of which 72 for illegal stay, 4 after revocation of the right to stay, and 7 after completion of the asylum procedure. After the return decisions were issued, 85 foreigners were issued entry bans to the European area for periods of 3 months to 5 years. 168 return decisions under escort were issued, and 38 people were placed in public custody centres until their removal from Romania.

A new element in 2025 was the modernization of services through digitalization. Employment and secondment permits are now issued electronically, with a digital signature, and sent directly to applicants without the need for their physical presence at the counter. Also, applicants can now book an appointment online, through the General Inspectorate for Immigration portal, which eliminates waiting times.

In the first quarter of 2026, immigration police officers in Timiş managed the stay and residency for 3,461 people, of whom 3,114 foreign nationals from third countries. During this period, the main reasons for settling in Romania remained employment, family reunification and studies. In the field of labour, 811 applications for employment permits were registered, with 713 permits issued. 73 applications were rejected.

13 foreigners were detected in illegal situations, mainly from Nepal, Tunisia and Morocco. 15 return decisions were issued, of which 7 for illegal stay, one as a result of the revocation of the right to stay and 7 upon request. 7 foreigners were issued entry bans to the European area.
