The General Inspectorate for Immigration has announced that, due to the high number of applications registered in 2025, the annual quota of newly admitted workers on the labour market has been officially used up.

Given that quota of 100,000 newly admitted foreign workers in Romania, established by a Government Decision, has been used up, the General Inspectorate for Immigration comes to the support of employers who request employment permits according to the procedure of changing the employer or the position, by prioritizing this approach. In this regard, it is necessary that, after making themselves an appointing on the IGI Portal, employers who want to employ foreigners, by obtaining an employment permit – change of employer or position, should have an appointment at the level of the territorial immigration units and request the taking over of applications prior to the scheduling date.

The General Inspectorate for Immigration recommends that employers always access regularly the information available on the institution’s website, especially the section on obtaining employment permits, where the necessary documents, procedural steps and applicable legal conditions are presented in detail. Most foreign citizens have been employed as permanent workers.
