In accordance with Art. 13 of Emergency Ordinance no. 194/2002 on the regime of foreigners in Romania, republished, as subsequently amended and supplemented, the immigration police officers remind foreign nationals holding a right of residence in Romania, as well as host entities, of their legal obligation to report any changes to their personal or professional status. Under these regulations, foreign nationals must report the following changes to the territorial unit of the General Inspectorate for Immigration that issued their residence permit:
– any change in personal status, specifically a change of name, citizenship, domicile, or residence, the conclusion, dissolution, or annulment of a marriage, the birth of a child; or the death of a family member in Romania, within 10 days;
– any change regarding their employment within 3 working days;
– the extension, renewal or replacement of their passport or travel documents within 10 days.
Also, the theft or loss of travel documents must be reported to the police authority with territorial jurisdiction, within 48 hours.
Furthermore, host entities must inform the territorial unit of the General Inspectorate for Immigration regarding the termination or suspension of the legal relationship with a foreign national, within 5 working days of the date the event occurred. Immigration police officers advise foreign nationals and employers to check the validity of documents well in advance and to submit the necessary notifications within the deadlines stipulated by the law, in order to avoid potential complications regarding the right of residence in Romania.
