Police officers from the General Inspectorate for Immigration carried out, between May 22 and 24, a street information campaign aimed at foreign nationals living in Romania. The teams travelled to heavily circulated areas, including in the proximity of large shopping malls, supermarket and public spaces, to inform beneficiaries of the new provisions of Government Emergency Ordinance no. 32/2026, regarding the support for foreigners entering the country legally.
The police officers interacted directly with the target people and distributed information leaflets written in several languages (English, French, Hindi), thus facilitating a correct understanding of the legal procedures. The main objective was to explain the necessary steps to regulate the right of stay and prevent the risks associated with illegal stay. Foreigners were informed about the importance of declaring their actual residence address within the legal 60-day deadline, as well as about the possibility of requesting an extension of their right of stay for work purposes until the end of this year, without the obligation to obtain a new visa.
The campaign lays emphasis on support and guidance, with foreigners who voluntarily present themselves to clarify their legal situation being assured that they will not be subject to fines or return measures. The target people were also advised to access only official communication channels.
